​A2. Read the following passage:
​”Sometimes it rains so heavily that floods occur. Because of heavy rainfall, river water overflows its banks and floods vast areas of land, towns and villages.”

মাঝে মাঝে এত প্রবল বৃষ্টিপাত হয় যে বন্যা দেখা দেয়। ভারী বর্ষণের কারণে নদীর পানি কূল ছাপিয়ে বিশাল এলাকা, শহর ও গ্রাম প্লাবিত করে।
​A3. Write down a few sentences about how people suffer if there is too much water:
​English Answer:
​During floods, houses, roads, and crops go under water, causing homelessness and damage to property.
​People face an extreme crisis of clean drinking water and food.
​Outbreaks of water-borne diseases like cholera and diarrhea occur frequently.
​Normal life and communication systems are completely disrupted.

১. বন্যার সময় ঘরবাড়ি, রাস্তাঘাট ও ফসলি জমি পানির নিচে তলিয়ে যায়, ফলে মানুষ গৃহহীন হয়ে পড়ে এবং সম্পদের ক্ষতি হয়।
২. মানুষ বিশুদ্ধ খাবার পানি ও খাদ্যের তীব্র সংকটে পড়ে।
৩. ডায়রিয়া ও কলেরার মতো পানিবাহিত রোগের প্রাদুর্ভাব ঘটে।
৪. স্বাভাবিক জীবনযাত্রা ও যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা সম্পূর্ণরূপে ব্যাহত হয়।
​Part B: Too Little Water (খুবই কম পানি / খরা)

​B. Read the following passage:
​”Sometimes we really are short of water. This can happen if there is no rainfall for a long period of time. Sometimes rivers dry up, or the water level underground may sink very low. If there is too little water, that causes a lot of suffering to the people.”
​বাংলা অনুবাদ:
মাঝে মাঝে আমাদের সত্যিই পানির অভাব দেখা দেয়। দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে বৃষ্টিপাত না হলে এমনটা হতে পারে। মাঝে মাঝে নদী শুকিয়ে যায়, অথবা ভূগর্ভস্থ পানির স্তর অনেক নিচে নেমে যেতে পারে। পানি যদি খুব কম থাকে, তবে তা মানুষের জন্য চরম কষ্টের কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।

​Due to severe drought, agricultural lands dry up and crack, making crop cultivation impossible.
​There is an acute shortage of safe drinking water for humans and animals.
​People, especially women and children, have to walk long distances to collect water.
​Extreme dry weather and lack of water cause severe heat, dehydration, and health hazards.

১. তীব্র খরার কারণে কৃষিজমি শুকিয়ে ফেটে চৌচির হয়ে যায়, ফলে ফসল ফলানো সম্ভব হয় না।
২. মানুষ ও গবাদিপশুর জন্য নিরাপদ খাবার পানির তীব্র সংকট দেখা দেয়।
৩. বিশেষ করে নারী ও শিশুদের পানি সংগ্রহের জন্য দূর-দূরান্তে হেঁটে যেতে হয়।
৪. তীব্র শুষ্ক আবহাওয়া ও পানির অভাবে প্রচণ্ড গরম, পানিশূন্যতা ও স্বাস্থ্যগত ঝুঁকি দেখা দেয়।
